Installing an eBay 20g
I'm reviewing an ebay 20g TD05 internally-gated turbocharger. You've seen me open it, assess it, and port it. Now I'm going to install it and see how it fits on my car. Its dimensions are close enough to a Mitsubishi turbo that it fits well, but it didn't play nice with my aftermarket stuff as the video illustrates. You'll see what I mean... The wastegate actuator nipple aims straight toward the compressor housing, and I don't like it. I fixed it with a pair of pliers and an allen wrench at 5:55 in a way that's far less likely to break it. The flanges and bolt centers lined up fine and without any issues, though others have claimed to have had them with this turbo. The compressor cover is an obvious giveaway regarding identifying this turbo. It does not wear the cast-in designation TD05H that the Mitsubishi turbos do, but for 8, what do you expect? If you chose to go this route, just manage your expectations. Be aware that it might not bolt up perfectly to your particular car, and be willing to fix what isn't perfect.

I love your “how its made” music in this video! ‘=P
I’ve been wondering where exactly is the best place to position jack stands in the front on the 2g GSX — shop manual is vague with a horrible pic. For the rear I’ve been putting them under that main crossmember. Where do you usually put yours?

@Jafromobile thanks, and yea i keep checking the forum and hear these “stores” about eBay turbos. seems as if everyone that said there shit has either not had them or they clame it was there brothers friends or whatever. but most of the youtube reviews seem like more people have susses with ebay turbos. i dont wanna replace a real legit evo3 16g for a ebay 16g. so i think im just going to go ahead and buy one of these 20g’s so at least it will be a tad big of an upgrade. thanks

@bigd021191 I got mine from CX Motorsports. I can not attest to the quality of these turbos as mine only went about 1000 miles before I crankwalked the car.
I can say it outflows my old heavily-modified Big16g that was a 42lb/min freak of nature. The night my shortblock went, I was logging 47 lb/min and about 420 awhp. The turbo still appears to be fine. It seems like a good inexpensive replacement. There are horror stories floating around, but I’ve had no trouble with it so far.

i have an evo3 16g that just shit the bed, consider a full rebuild would cost around 250 or so i have decided to get a large (ebay) turbo for 300 or so. anyway what 20g is this? i really wanna get something that is atleast a tad bit trust worthy, i atleast wanna get a year out of this turbo. do you have any links? or maby suggested 20g’s? from what i see it seems “godspeed” is the most trustful ebay carrier.

@mariohdz2626 LOL! You found it already… I would bet the farm on exhaust leaks. I’m not real impressed with the wastegate spring on these. Mine is weaker than my old Mitsu 16g. I didn’t have the problem you described, but if you can’t adjust the rod to keep it closed, then pressure test the intake and exhaust. I cover the intake side of things with a boost leak testing video. The exhaust can be tested similarly, but if you can’t plug up the tailpipe while running and stall it… then…

Hi it’s me again i had my Ebay 16g turbo on the car but after a week the turbo stop boosting, it was @ 10 psi and 2 days later 5 psi and now it doesn’t boost at all the turbo sounds wired when i press the gas i took it off the car and no shaft play or smoke I’m not sure if it’s a blown turbo or waste gate not working properly .but I’m pretty sure i have no major air leaks .Any idea what’s going on? thanks

@Jafromobile Thanks …im gona try that ..

@mariohdz2626 No worries. There’s 2 vacuum lines and a wiring harness connected to it. It’s bolted to the frame rails below the intake up front. Kinduv low down in the engine bay. Just behind the coolant overflow bottle. Pull those vac lines and plug ‘em up (or loop them together. remove them entirely, what have you). If you remove the electrical thing or the BCS entirely, it will throw check engine lights.

@mariohdz2626 Ok thanks but where can i find the boost controler solenoid in my car? LOl ..sorry im new at this i really appraciate your help….

@mariohdz2626 Remove the vacuum lines from the boost control solenoid, but LEAVE THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS CONNECTED (or you’ll get check engine lights). Buy an aftermarket boost controller off of ebay, hook it up as directed (they usually come with instructions) and gradually screw the knob in until boost begins to rise.
You will not be able to make any more boost than the stock configuration if you have all the stock boost control pieces in place (the BCS). The wastegate spring is 10-11lb.

Thanks again for ur reply Jafro, is there a way i can chek the rings? And recently money has been real tight so i havent workd on it at all, still drive it daily and noticed that i can rev and speed on all gears as long as i dont let the turbo build boost and there will be no smoke or stink of burnt oil:) hmmmm wat fo u think Jafro?? maybe PCV lets turbo over pressurize the crank case?
